I will be giving a paper on Wednesday 15th February 2012 at the University of York Department of Music, entitled:
‘Dead or Alive? The relationship between the spectator and the performer – of classical music – as a composer sees it.’
With a background in theatre and drawing on influences from Stravinsky, Birtwistle, and recent theoretical writings by Peter Brook and Nicolas Bourriaud, the paper will act as a post-mortem of the text and context of some of my recent music theatre works, before revealing some forthcoming pieces.
The forum also features papers by three PhD candidates, plus a Composers’ Workshop of four new postgraduate works.
